facebook. I hate that I love it. Seriously, I love that facebook allows me to stay connected with friends from childhood, high school, college, previous jobs, church, and so many other different social circles. Another thing I love about facebook is contests and giveaways from businesses I'm a fan of. Very often, a business will host a giveaway on facebook where all you have to do is leave a comment or "like" a post and just like that... you are entered to win something fun. I love a great deal and the best deal of all is FREE, so I never hesitate to jump in and post when I see the opportunity. And a few times now... I've won! One business that I especially love is The Vintage Pearl. The owner is a mom with young kids and a strong faith. What started out as a small online venture for her has turned into a booming business with multiple store locations (unfortunately none in Ohio)... and for very good reason! The hand stamped keepsake jewelry is one of a kind, great quality, and so precious. I've been a fan for years and bought a few pieces as gifts, but always thought that I'd wait to request a necklace for myself until our family was complete and I could wear a piece that represented each one of my kids. One day on facebook TVP posted that they had a new necklace design to debut and they needed to make a few as examples for their website. They said, "leave a comment with your children's names and we'll use our favorites on our new jewelry design and then send it to you for free!". Of course I didn't wait one second to enter the names "Avery and Norah", but I didn't have high hopes since they had over 10,000 entries (no joke!). Imagine my surprise a few days later when I saw the winners posted and sure enough, this photo jumped out at me:
I think I screamed, then jumped up and down, then cried, then emailed Erich at work, then called Erich at work when he didn't respond to my email quickly enough. :) This nearly $100 necklace was mine as a gift. Not to mention, the names Avery and Norah were chosen as their favorite out of 10,000 other names. That's enough to make any momma's heart swell with pride. I wear this necklace often and get many compliments on it. Praying our family grows in the future, we can order additional name charms when needed. I know it's just a necklace. It's not the lottery or a new car or some big extravagant prize, but that particular day was a difficult one with Avery and Norah and when I saw my girls' names scroll up on that computer screen I felt like God was reaching down and embracing me in a big hug, saying, "I see you. And you are doing a good job. Here's a little encouragement for your heart today". Now every time I wear it I feel that love and I'm encouraged in my role as a mom to my precious girls. Sometimes the little things can touch you in big ways.
