Avery's first year of preschool was a wonderful experience for her. One of the fun things for me as her mom was that once every 8 weeks or so, when it was our turn to provide the snack, Erich or I were able to attend class with her for the day. It was always fun to get to spend some special time with Avery and see all of the fun things she was doing at school. Due to the logistics of life and Erich's work schedule, I was often the one who got to be the room helper on those days, but there were a couple occasions that Erich got to visit with Avery at school. As I'm sure you can imagine, he was a big hit with the 3 year old crowd!
During "Healthy Hearts Week" Avery's teachers invited Erich Piland, RN to come speak to the class about our hearts, how they work, and what keeps them healthy. He wore his scrubs and brought a doppler (which amplifies your heartbeat on a loud speaker) into class. The kids all thought he was very cool!
Avery got to be his special volunteer and the class got to hear her heartbeat as used the doppler on her wrist. She loved it.
Just a week later, Daddy got to return to preschool with Avery as her special guest... this time because it was her 4th birthday! I had to whisk the girls away to Marysville that afternoon for a couple of days, so Erich went to school with Avery to enjoy a few hours with her on her special day. Here is a picture of Avery and Norah together before Avery left for school. Such sweet sisters.
Wearing her special birthday crown (queen for a day!) and eating some more s'mores. When the preschool teachers heard Avery was on the box, they had to have a set for the classroom!
Avery's birthday poster that tells all about her. It got to hang in the class all week.
After school, Norah and I met up with Daddy and Avery at McDonald's for a birthday lunch before heading out of town. Happy Meals are a rare occasion in our family so it was definitely a birthday treat.
We rounded out the day at Grandma and Grandpa's house. They made mac&cheese for dinner- Avery's favorite meal, and had cupcakes for dessert. She had a great birthday!
