Oh Life… how is it that I’m just now sitting down to
document the events of 2013 for our family and 2013 is already ¾’s of the way
over! Much has happened over the past 9
months and there is so much to share!
Some of the news to share about this year also serves as an explanation
as to why things have been so quiet around here. Mainly these two things:
We are expecting Piland baby #3! We were thrilled to find out in January that
our family would be expanding once again, but growing a baby comes with fun
things like total exhaustion, nausea, hip pain, and more exhaustion. Blogging fell off the radar a little bit
(despite Erich’s best efforts to gently remind me that our little piece of
family history was still here and waiting).
Also, this is the first time I’ve ever been pregnant while juggling
taking care of two energetic little girls and working.
Yes, after 4 years of staying home and loving (almost) every
minute of it. God put a nudge in my heart that I just couldn’t ignore. As a social worker I have kept my license
current knowing that someday I would go back to work in some capacity, but not
for a very long time… sometime after all of our kids were in school. In the meantime, mommyhood brought me a
precious friend named Lindsey. She and her husband, Adam, have adopted 2
beautiful children and we’ve been honored to walk alongside them through that
journey, which hasn’t always been smooth.
God planted the seed in my heart that perhaps someday adoption would be
an interesting field to work in. Before
I knew it that “maybe someday” seed turned into a “do it now” conviction. One door after another seemed to open wide up
and all of a sudden, with very little effort on my part, I had become a
certified state of Ohio Adoption Assessor and was employed by an amazing
Christ-centered private infant adoption agency.
The job is a part time contract position, which means I have total
control over my schedule, work as much or as little as I want to, and aside
from being gone a couple hours at a time throughout the week for home visits
with my clients, I can work from home. I
get to spend time with people who are waiting in hopeful expectation to start
their adoption journey, guiding them through the homestudy process. I also get to spend time with couples who
have just brought their newborn babies home, doing monthly post placement
visits until the adoption is finalized.
Mostly though, I get to do the tons of paperwork and typing up reports
that goes with both of those processes which means I spend a lot of time typing
on the computer… and again, blogging has taken a back seat.
So here we are. That
brings us to now… less than 2 weeks before our baby is due. I am bound and determined to get things all
caught up to date before the baby comes because goodness knows it won’t get any
easier to blog after a newborn is here!
Settle in for 9 months worth of Piland Family fun…
