With the summer break from preschool I was worried that Avery would get bored being at home every day and set out to find some fun summer activities to keep us busy. Perrysburg has much to offer for kids, and much of it for free (which I can never resist). I had good intentions, but ended up making a rookie mom mistake and signed up for way too much. We were over-scheduled and worn out by the end of the summer. There was somewhere to go almost every single day. Avery took a soccer class, attended library storytime, had swimming lessons every day for a month, and did a week of Vacation Bible School. Next year I'll tone it down a bit. But she had fun and didn't seem to mind all of the running around as much as I did. Norah was a great sport just tagging along for the ride!
Perrysburg's Parks and Rec department has an amazing summer kids program where they offer tons of different classes for kids, most of them for free or for $5.00. We decided to try out the 6 week soccer class and while Avery looked so stinking adorable in her little shin guards, I think the end consensus is that she had fun but soccer is not going to be her thing. I'm glad that she tried it, and now she knows!

Working on her moves
Avery's friend Grace was also in the class and those two girls held hands the entire time. Any moves they made on the field were made together. Which was adorable and hilarious... and might have given them a slight handicap. But at least they had fun. Also, notice the #1 on Avery's shirt. She had recently attended cousin Will's soccer game where he had on a team jersey with a number on the back. She was so disappointed when it was time to get ready for her soccer class that she didn't have a jersey... so Daddy to the rescue, he whipped up a quick #1 with some silver reflective tape he had on hand and Avery was a happy camper. And we cracked up when the sun reflected so brightly off the tape that she was impossible to lose among the 40 other kids on the field.
Sweet friends... they stick together!

Sisters staying hydrated in the heat. It was a hot hot summer!
Getting ready to leave for VBS. She attended the VBS put on by the church where she goes to preschool and it was fabulous! She loved it.
Norah was a little bummed that she was too young for VBS, but we enjoyed our mornings together getting to spend time just the two of us. She was always happy to pick up sissy and watch the closing program each day!
Avery had never taken swimming lessons before. Each session is two weeks long. She did such a great job during the first session that we just moved her right up to the next class for the next session. By the end of the summer she was doing great in the water and pretty much swimming on her own, but going to the pool is a lot of work and I'm not sure I'd sign up to do it every day for 4 weeks in a row again!
Practicing with her teacher. Along with lessons, we also got a pool pass this summer which meant that a lot of times we went twice in one day... in the morning for lessons and then after naps just for fun. Avery is a fish and loved every second of it. Norah is a little more clingy in the water, but progressed well through the summer. She started out hating it, then tolerated it, and then I think by the end was actually enjoying herself a little (As long as she was being held).
It was a fun and packed summer! I have to admit it's nice to be back into our usual "school year" routine, but I'm glad we got all we could out of our summer days!
